AWARDS

TARC received numerous ARC of Louisiana awards in 2009. We’re very proud of these individuals and staff for their hard work and dedication to make these awards possible.

ARC of Louisiana Awards

Outstanding Local Unit Award—TARC

This award celebrates a chapter that has provided unique, exemplary and innovative special programs for people with developmental disabilities and their families. We are grateful for the community support to assist in TARC’s coveted success.

Professional of the Year Award— Maggie Zschiedrich, Manager,                Sweet Sensations

This award honors a person who, by a significant act or series of actions, performs outstanding services to people with developmental disabilities. Maggie Zschiedrich began and manages Sweet Sensations, and TARC is very proud of all that she accomplishes with her clients and the amazing growth of the business.

Special Recognition Award— Weatherford Houma Manufacturing

This award recognizes an individual or business for exemplary service to the field of disabilities. TARC is undeniably excited for their exceptional and progressive philosophy for relocating TARC’s entire Cajun Crate Company in their new facility.  The 20 individuals in TARC’s wood department, now known as the Cajun Crate Company, learn carpentry skills while manufacturing custom designed wooden crates for oil field tools, specifically, Houma business, Weatherford. The crew members produce approximately 2,500 crates annually.

News Media Award--The Houma Daily Courier

This award honors outstanding media efforts to create better understanding of The ARC, its members, and our mission.  This local newspaper’s support for TARC is exceptional and outstanding.  As we continue to recognize the talents of the individuals we serve, it is invaluable to have those in the media take notice, explore, support and appreciate these individuals as contributing members of society.  This past year, many positive articles have been published in The Houma Daily Courier to highlight TARC.

Recreation Award-- Creole Lanes

This award honors an individual, a chapter, or a program that provides recreational opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This local bowling alley provides many opportunities for TARC individuals by hosting several types of programs that meet the needs of the bowlers such as Special Olympics, Unified Sports, and a local bowling league Special Superstars throughout the year.  Creole Lanes is not just your ordinary bowling alley, it’s a place where our individuals regularly feel at home, included, and most of all, improve their bowling score.

EDS Award--Lawrence Brien--2nd Place

Lawrence Brien recently accepted his 2nd Place award, plaque, American flag, medallion, and $500 in December from EDS, Employment Development Services.  EDS is a Louisiana program for the purchase of services and projects for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.  Lawrence was selected from numerous nominations across the state.
